When an aerial bomb from the Second World War is found on a construction site and an entire neighbourhood has to be evacuated as a precaution, the evacuated residents find themselves in the old gymnasium right next to a refugee shelter, of all places. Prejudices, fears and hostility increase the longer the bomb disposal takes and eventually threaten to escalate.

Pilot to a mini series. 

Since the death of his wife, the life of Karl, a street cleaner in his early 60s, has been in a downward spiral. Through his appearance and dismissive manner, he has managed to alienate himself from his friends and family. When his colleague Sarah, a Muslim woman in her 30s, is assaulted by two drunken youths during a night shift, he takes justice into his own hands.
His well-intentioned but misguided actions prove ineffective and leave Karl
once again – alone.

Janosch, an interpreter, is called to help during a police deployment at the Port of Hamburg. A young African woman has barricaded herself in a container ship and threatens to commit suicide. In order to get her out, Janosch promises to help her, an offer which bears unexpected consequences.

Intermezzos deals with the psychological state of alienation which is not to be shared, described or prevented, not even in the most intimate moments with the closest person. It is a search for words that depict the discrepancy between what is to be seen and what is to be felt. The state of disconnection and rootlessness as well as the sensation of beeing unsettled can be portrayed much closer in a symbolical or visually unliteral manner. Intermezzo questions the translation of these states to literal, it questions the capability of self-reflection, but it also comforts its miscarriage.

Day by day, Mr. Jonas and Mr. Schmidt make their way from door to door across the country, selling pots.
After work, both go their own way: Mr. Jonas spends his evenings in solitude, contemplating in his cheap hotel room, before going to a bar to drink a few glasses of Whiskey. Mr. Schmidt whereas, transforms himself into a glamorous Drag Queen and dives into the night-life.
On one of those evenings, set at a shabby bar on the outskirts of a town, Mr. Schmidt fully dressed up, clashes with the locals who aren’t able to to cope with his extroverted lifestyle as well as with Mr. Jonas who just wanted to spend some time alone. Now it’s up to Mr. Jonas to decide whether he’ll risk his own neck for his unwanted colleague, or do nothing  while Mr. Schmidt gets humiliated.

Two strangers on the run, searching for an unknown destiny and running from an invisible enemy. Both meet on their journey to safety and decide to form a temporary team but the constant threat and tension puts their friendship to the test.
